The best way to watch the original Shōgun the 1980 miniseries is to head to your local library. Or, you can now stream it on Paramount+. The 1980 adaptation of James Clavell's novel is a sweeping historical epic that tells the story of John Blackthorne, a English pilot who is stranded in feudal Japan in the 16th century. Blackthorne is taken in by a powerful warlord, Toranaga, and eventually becomes his adopted son. Through Blackthorne's eyes, we learn about the complex politics and culture of feudal Japan.
